Voice AI for Rural Indian Hospitals
Small hospitals in rural India handle hundreds of phone calls a day — appointment inquiries, follow-ups, doctor availability. The staff is overwhelmed. Patients often can't get through. Calls go unanswered.
Vani is an AI-powered voice assistant that answers these calls in Hindi and Marathi. It understands natural speech (patients don't speak in clean sentences), schedules appointments, checks doctor availability, and handles follow-ups — all over a phone call, no app needed.
The pilot is with Shraddha Hospital, Sangli (Dr. G.S. Kulkarni). I analyzed 132 real hospital call recordings to understand conversation patterns — short greetings, code-switching between Hindi/Marathi/English, appointment inquiries (42% of calls), and booking requests (17%).
